Advantages of a Propane Condensing Boiler

Condensing boiler

If your home heating system has radiators or baseboards rather than vents, then you also have a boiler lurking somewhere in your basement – one that is going to have to be replaced one day.

The question is, what are your boiler options when that time comes? To understand one of the more important decisions you’ll have to make when choosing a new boiler, let us first take a look at some boiler basics.

Boiler 101

All boilers work by drawing heat from fuel (propane or heating oil) as it burns; that heat is sent through a heat exchanger, which transfers heat to the water that will run through your radiators or baseboards. Simple enough so far.

The problem is no fuel-burning system operates at 100 percent efficiency; some of the heat produced will be lost as exhaust – as much as 30 percent in some older non-condensing boiler models.

In a condensing boiler, however, one significant feature makes that efficiency much higher. A condensing boiler adds a second heat exchanger, which extracts heat from the exhaust and diverts it back into your heating system – a process that is skipped in a non-condensing boiler. By drawing more heat from the fuel burning process, your condensing boiler typically improves operating efficiency by 10-15 percent, which means lower bills for you.

Why aren’t all boilers condensing? Two reasons: First, condensing boilers are more costly to manufacture – primarily because they need upgraded parts to accommodate the second heat exchanger process. The second reason? Because it requires experts to install a condensing boiler in a way that ensures you’ll spend less on fuel than with a non-condensing boiler.

Fortunately, you’ll find those experts at Pioneer Oil and Propane.

Our highly trained technicians will assess whether your home heating system will be able to keep you comfortable while operating at the lower temperatures that provide a propane-powered condensing boiler with its advantage. And as with all our propane appliance installations, we’ll get it done quickly – and get it done right the first time.

Summer is the time for a heating system upgrade – especially when you can get $100 off a Rinnai Condensing Boiler installed by the pros at Pioneer. Contact us today to learn more – or claim your Rinnai rebate by downloading the application form here.
